With the conclusion of the Southeast Asian Regional Qualifiers and DPL Top Season 6, we finally now have a complete list of all the teams who will take part in MDL Changsha 2018.
Headlining Mars Dota 2 League’s second tournament and first Major of the 2017-18 Pro Circuit are direct invites Mineski, Newbee, Team Secret, and ViCi Gaming. The DAC 2018 Major champions received a direct invite to MDL Changsha 2018 after Virtus.Pro withdrew from the tournament. Joining them in the twelve-team Major are the top teams of DPL Top Season 5, iG.Vitality, Invictus Gaming, and PSG.LGD, as well as the winning teams from the other regional qualifiers; TNC Pro Team from Southeast Asia; VGJ.Storm from North America; Infamous from South America; OG from Europe; Vega Squadron from the CIS region.
The MDL Changsha 2018 will serve as the first tournament that both Invictus Gaming and iG.Vitality will have qualified for this season. Although the former did play at DAC 2018 after receiving a direct invite as the defending champions. Unfortunately, Invictus Gaming fell way short of defending their title and only came away with a Top 12 finish. Meanwhile, the latter spent much of last season as fringe contenders that all culminated in a Top 16 finish at The International 7 in Seattle with Zhang ‘Paparazi‘ Chengjun, who is now playing in Vici Gaming, leading the way.
Is MDL Changsha 2018 Mineski’s To Lose?
This is easily the biggest storyline heading into MDL Changsha 2018.
Mineski turned a lot of heads with their win at DAC 2018. As a result, they upped their season total to 3,150 Qualifying Points, which is good enough for fourth-place on the season leaderboards. Though a Virtus.Pro and Team Liquid sized cloud is still looming above their heads, Mineski will not have to worry about playing both teams at MDL Changsha 2018. Based on current performance, their closest competition at MDL Changsha 2018 will be LGD Gaming while Team Secret are a bit of a wild card.
If Mineski performs well at the upcoming EPICENTER XL, they could very well punch their ticket to The International 2018 in Vancouver, Canada with a deep run at MDL Changsha 2018.
MDL Changsha 2018 will run from May 14 to May 20. It will take place at the Hunan International Convention and Exhibition Center, Changsha, China. It will feature a prize pool of $1 million USD and 1,500 Qualifying Points.
