Grand Finals Rematches Highlight Day 3 of ESL One Genting 2018

It looks like we’ve got a high-profile rematch scheduled for Day 3 of ESL One Genting 2018 with Team Liquid vs Newbee. Both teams have already booked their tickets for the playoffs playoffs and will now only be playing for placement — winner advances directly to the semifinals. However, this should not make this rematch any less hype worthy.

The same goes for frequent scrim partners Team Secret and Virtus Pro. The last time these two teams met in a BO3 was in the Grand Finals of ESL One Hamburg. Virtus Pro won that one, via sweep no less, to win the first Major of the 2017-18 Pro Circuit. Much have changed since, though. Team Secret are now arguably in better shape than ever before; they’re the first team this season to win two straight Pro Circuit tournaments and currently have a firm lead on the top spot of the season leaderboards with 4,140 Qualifying Points.

Having already said, tomorrow is sure to be one hell of an entertaining day for Dota 2 fans from all over the world. So, without further delay, here are our picks for tomorrow’s matches.

TNC Pro Team vs Evil Geniuses (1200H / 12:00 NN MYT)

Evil Geniuses and TNC Pro Team haven’t met much, so there’s very little sample size to work with here. However, it is worth taking note the boys in blue have not lost a single series against Virtus Pro since Alexei ‘Solo‘ Berezin banded together a group of CIS benefits. Now, why is that important? Because Virtus Pro and TNC Pro Team’s playstyle somewhat mirror each other, and given Evil Geniuses’ record against the champions of CIS dota, they’re an easy pick to send TNC Pro Team home tomorrow.

Betting: Evil Geniuses to go 2-0 at 3.25 odds (GGbet)

Team Liquid vs Newbee (1900H / 07:00 PM MYT)

Team Liquid should have this one in the bag. The only question now is, how long will the series last? Will it go to the full three games? There’s a chance, but looking at their history, it’s highly unlikely; Team Liquid boast a 3-0 record against this iteration of Newbee and are 6-0 overall against the Chinese powerhouse since Kuro ‘KuroKy‘ Salehi Takhasomi took over the reigns of the team.

Betting: Team Liquid handicap -1.5 at 2.20 odds (Arcanebet)

VGJ.Thunder vs ViCi Gaming (1900H / 07:00 PM MYT)

VGJ.Thunder already took a game off of their sister team. Who’s to say they won’t do it again, this time in a best-of-three series? The Bai ‘rOtK‘ Fan-coached Dota 2 squad have proven themselves quite the revelation after a somewhat lackluster start to the season. Each of them are playing very well to their best and there’s very little reason to believe that they have not prepared well for a rematch against ViCi Gaming. Considering that this’ll be their last Pro Circuit LAN appearance in a while, expect them to make the most out of this opportunity.

Betting: VGJ.Thunder to go 2-1 at 3.65 odds (GGbet)
