Considered as one of the biggest international events in League of Legends, the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational will serve as our mini-preview for the 2019 World Championship, which is still another Split away.

With that said, let’s get right on with our beginner-friendly guide for the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational.

What is the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational?

2019 Mid-Season Invitational

As the name suggests, the Mid-Season Invitational is a tournament that occurs in the middle of the season. In a way, you could say that the MSI serves as a testing grounds for the Spring Split champions, for them to see how well they’re doing relative to other regions.

In addition bragging rights and a chance to seize themselves up against international competition, the MSI will also feature a $1 million prize pool. This is will be split among the participating teams at the end of it all.

There’s also more at stake at the Mid-Season Invitational. For teams who managed to make it to the semifinals, they’ll earn a seed as one of their region’s representatives at the next World’s Championship. This is very important. Because, if a team manages to snag a slot as a main region, they’ll give pool one, two, and three draws, while others will only get pool two and three draws.

The importance of being in pool one is that you will avoid being in the same group as other pool one teams. In other words, every region that isn’t a main region will have a pretty tough draw against the regions that are main regions because they’ll face tougher teams.

For the 2019 MSI, the venue will be in Vietnam and Taipei, respectively.
