The 2018 NA LCS Spring Split is finally onto its third week and the teams are starting to round into midseason form. Though the balance of power remains far different from what was expected, it’s starting to look better, especially for teams that many expected would do better this season.
Below is a summary of the events that transpired in Day 1 of Week 3 of the 2018 NA LCS Spring Split:
FOX vs. CLG
After a disappointing first two weeks for CLG, they were matched against the current kings of NA Echo Fox. The early game was swung in favour of CLG, but they definitely had a better early game composition so this was to be expected. If they couldn’t get further ahead they would definitely be outscaled. A rough trade initiated by a Baron fight gave Fox the first lead of the game. However, CLG weren’t going down without a fight and managed to wipe FOX 5-0 and ended the game shortly afterwards.
C9 vs. Optic
Could Optic follow CLG’s example and start their comeback season off against one of the big dogs? The early game was incredibly scrappy, and Optic were attempting to pop-off to give themselves a significant lead. If anything, at least Optic were trying to win the game with some aggressive rotations and fights. However, C9 were in no mood to drop a game against Optic, and secured the first Baron of the game as well as the first significant gold lead of the game. This eventually led to C9 ending the game, further increasing the woes of Optic.
100 Thieves vs. Clutch Gaming
This game was always going to be exciting. Both teams were looking very strong heading into Week 3 of the 2018 NA LCS Spring Split, with 100 Thieves looking slightly stronger than Clutch Gaming. First blood was picked up by a great gank by Meteos, but was almost instantly replied by LirA. This game was definitely a wild ride, with neither team being particularly scared of fighting. However, Clutch Gaming started bringing The Galio, Shen, Jarvan combination was proving too much for 100 Thieves to deal with. Clutch Gaming began to build themselves up a significant gold lead, which was snowballed into an elder drake.
However, 100 Thieves managed to catch Clutch Gaming at the big purple worm, and picked it up themselves shortly after killing 2 members of CG. Somehow 100 Thieves were winning fights when they were still 7k gold down, under Clutch Gaming’s turrets. In the end, it was the rock that is Cody Sun who managed to carry 100 Thieves to a late-game teamfight win. They ended the game shortly afterwards and continued their dominant run in the NA LCS Spring Split 2018.
FLY vs. TL
Anyone who has been watching the 2018 NA LCS Spring Split so far, will know who the likely winners of this one would be. Impact on the Ornn managed to catch Flame early on with a great bit of play to pick up first blood, with the help of Xsmithie. Xsmithie was playing out of his mind, with 100% kp at 13 minutes (1/0/4). This also netted TL the first turret of the game. Team Liquid looked unstoppable, and ended the game shortly after picking up the first and only baron of the game, and diving the FLY line-up.
TSM vs. GG
If TSM lost this game, then their season really would be in jeopardy. From kings of NA to losing against an 0-4 team. However it seemed as if TSM were done messing around, and polished off the Golden Guardians after 32 minutes without any of them dying and only lost 2 turrets, giving them an almost perfect game. Was this the point that TSM turned their season around? We’ll find out soon enough.
