After the clown fiesta that we saw last week, 2018 EU LCS Summer Week 5 might finally afford us some rest. That might even include seeing the top teams getting a few more wins to their name. Although, if we are to be honest, we’re a lot more excited about what the weaker teams are going to pull off this week. There’s nothing like a good underdog story, after all.
With the EU LCS having more than their fair share of underdogs, 2018 EU LCS Summer Week 5 might just finally be when the underdogs start stepping up.
2018 EU LCS Summer Week 5: The Underdogs
After nearly an entire split of hoping that these teams might rise and upset the leaders, and being disappointed that they didn’t, we’re finally getting something out of them. We can say with confidence that even if they don’t win more games this split, they’ll certainly be worth following, as they’ve shown that they have the skills to win against top teams like Fnatic and G2 Esports.
Of these 3 teams, Schalke is on top of our list. This would have surprised us half a season ago, but this team has climbed miles since then. With the addition of Amazing to the team, their main weakness seems to have disappeared. They’re no longer lost when it comes to macro plays. It’s clear that the team is on the same page during their games, even if the shot calling doesn’t work out.
The carry that is Nukeduck made a statement last week. He was the driving force behind the team and the main source of damage. He was exceptionally dependable. It’s up to him, mainly, whether his team continues to make gains in the region. They’ve got everything it takes to make it to the playoffs again.
Splyce have been looking great ever since Rift Rivals. That much should be obvious from their victory against Fnatic last week. Nisqy’s performance has certainly been better, which allows the entire team to function smoothly. They’ve got a chance to prove that they’re just as good a team as they were during the Spring split. A match against Vitality should serve as the perfect litmus test to see just where this team stands.
Unicorns of Love
UOL is a different team on this list. We don’t see them rising like Splyce or Schalke. However, they’ve got the same amount of wins as Splyce. They’ve also managed to acquire a neat win last week. UOL will always be on our list of underdogs that might steal the show at any time due to their immaculate gameplay the last year. While they definitely could be doing better right now, they’re still the same team. Their losses are generally close, and we’re counting on them to work around their weaknesses and start winning again.
2018 EU LCS Summer Week 5: The Team of The Week
Misfits have been the centre of attention for some time now. We’re seeing PowerOfEvil finally being truly replaced as Sencux is making plays that are reminiscent of his. Hans Sama, one of the only players to keep playing ADC champions and still win, is doing a fantastic job of carrying the team. Every member on this team is fitting together. This synergy makes us believe in them, and in that they’ll receive more wins this week.
2018 EU LCS Summer Week 5: Must-Watch Matches
G2 Esports vs. Vitality
Prediction: G2 win
Odds: 1.5 (G2) – 2.43 (Vitality) via ArcaneBet
Vitality are difficult to predict, but they’re playing a much safer game than they did last split. However, so are G2 Esports. They took a while to adjust to the new season, but once they did, they quickly climbed all the way to the top. Vitality, on the other hand, likes to throw away leads, and have failed to remain consistent in their dominance. We think G2 will take this match away because their mid-jungler synergy is stronger than Vitality’s.
Misfits vs. Fnatic
Prediction: Misfits win
Odds: 1.63 (Misfits) – 2.16 (Fnatic) via ArcaneBet
Fnatic seem like they’re down right now. Replacing Rekkles with Bwipo seemed like an easy fix, but now it looks like they might be struggling to keep up. Misfits have an iconic bot lane that’s almost impossible to take down, which is why we think Misfits will be the ones to come out on top.
