Four of the top teams in Europe will battle it out in the 2018 EU LCS Summer Playoffs Quarterfinals to determine which ones deserve to advance and go to Madrid for the Semifinals.
Are they prepared? We’d like to think that at least some of them are. Case in point, FC Schalke 04 are on top of their game. However, we can’t exactly say the same for others, and we’ll delve deeper into why that is so in a while.
Below, you’ll find our thoughts on the teams playing in the 2018 EU LCS Summer Playoffs Quarterfinals, from their chances of winning to their strengths and weaknesses.

2018 EU LCS Summer Playoffs Quarterfinals
Schalke 04 vs Splyce
Betting: Schalke 04 to win at 1.41 odds (ArcaneBet)
Splyce aren’t doing too good right now. The only reason they’ve made it to the 2018 EU LCS Summer Playoffs Quarterfinals is because other teams like ROCCAT and Giants simply couldn’t keep up with the game during the later stages of the group stage. They’ve struggled to make it to the late game, which is, ironically, when they begin to perform well. But, you have to give them props, they’ve got exceptional macro skills. This is something they demonstrated against Fnatic in a game that they almost won despite playing from behind.
On the other hand, Schalke 04 are looking better than ever. Their game is clean, and their communication, as well as synergy, is on point. They’ve played so well that many have begun calling them the best region in the split, although those turned to mere whispers are their performance kind of fell from great to good during the final week of the regular split.
Then again, their defeats don’t mean much because they know how to handle themselves after losses, often learning from them and coming out as a better team, armed with improved macro strategies and lane mechanics.
FC Schalke 04 Are Looking Far Better Than Splyce
The 2018 EU LCS Summer Playoffs Quarterfinals seem to be all but Schalke’s to take because Splyce simply lack the teamwork and early game potential to fight this game. Amazing’s jungle pathing is beyond Xerxe, and even though Xerxe can manage aggression, he cannot do anything against Amazing’s farm-focused pathing which leaves his opponents starved.
Each laner in Schalke’s team is better than Splyce’s in mechanical terms, which doesn’t leave much for Splyce.
It’ll be a miracle if Splyce can pull off a win during this match, and we predict Schalke will take it all with a score of 3-1, leaving a single game margin for Splyce.
G2 Esports vs Misfits Gaming
Betting: G2 Esports to win at 1.54 odds (ArcaneBet)
The case with G2 Esports and Misfits is somewhat different from that of Splyce vs Schalke 04 in that none of these two has been performing well lately. G2 has had some serious issues with their coordination, with an emphasis on their jungler, Jankos.
Normally, it’s Jankos’ job to make sure that Perkz, the team’s mid laner, gets fed. However, during recent games, we’ve had to see Perkz helping Jankos around in the jungle so that he doesn’t fall behind, which is the exact opposite of how their dynamic is supposed to work.
Misfits have seen better times, and are right now in one of the worst states they’ve been all year. They were rocking the group stage during its beginning, but as time drew on, they found that they were having difficulty in their early games.
Since most of their leads, and subsequently their victories, were derived from the early game, they stopped winning altogether.
Now they’re on a losing spree, and it doesn’t look like it’ll swing around for them during the upcoming 2018 EU LCS Summer Playoffs Quarterfinals match against G2 Esports.
G2 Esports Should Easily Defeat Misfits
G2 Esports’ superiority in the mid lane should tilt the games in their favour. Now, Sencux is by no means a weak laner, but Perkz has made his laning phase miserable in the past. There’s no reason to think that this time will be any different.
Misfits have a win condition in Jankos tilting, but there’s no guarantee that’ll happen. Additionally, G2’s team issues are less significant than those of Misfits, and it’s likely they’ve been covered up by now.
We predict G2 will win the match 3-1, giving a similar margin to Misfits to that which we gave Splyce.
Both, Schalke 04 and G2 Esports are by far the better teams during this event. Things could have been more interesting if they had gone up against each other, but for now, we’ve got some straightforward matches on our hands.
Of course, things will definitely heat up and get interesting if either of the underdogs decides to defy expectations and win a match.
