Not too long from now, the 2018 EU LCS Summer Finals will take place.
Fnatic and Schalke 04 are going to take it out on each other, and both teams have something to prove. Schalke 04 was designed to be a team that would go to worlds, and after almost a year, they’ve nearly reached their goal.
Fnatic aren’t half as worried about winning as Schalke are, however. They don’t have as much to lose, given that they already have their tickets to Worlds 2018 punched, or so to speak. Schalke, on the other hand, still don’t have a confirmed spot, and have the potential to lose it all even now.
The outcome of the 2018 EU LCS Summer Finals can change all of that.
In other news, the match for the third place of the split will also be happening this weekend. It’ll be played between Misfits and Vitality. This could be the deciding factor in Schalke’s fate as well. Schalke 04’s best bet is for Misfit’s to win against Vitality, automatically making them the second seed for the EU LCS.
2018 EU LCS Summer Finals: A Battle of Similar Teams
It doesn’t take an expert to tell that these two teams rely on similar strengths to win games. This makes predicting the outcome all the more difficult because it ultimately ends up being a question of which of them could end up scaling harder and winning it all.
The Top Lane
Vizicsacsi and sOAZ both love playing reliable tanks and avoid too much aggression, which helps their teams scale into the late game without any shenanigans. Each of these players is highly experienced and probably won’t end up dying in a 1v1, and we doubt applying pressure to the top lane is any team’s agenda for this match.
In Bwipo’s case, things could be slightly different. Bwipo plays the game to win his lane in any way he can, which could prove to be a liability. We know Rekkles will be playing the bot lane, which makes it likely that sOAZ will be the top laner for Fnatic. If Bwipo does end up playing, we think Amazing and Vizicsacsi would have the upper hand on him.
Jungle and Mid
Amazing and Broxah both have a slightly passive role for their teams, fighting for vision and helping their teammates get ahead rather than trying to carry the game. Amazing has had the most success when he’s camped the mid and top lanes, driving the enemy jungler away from Upset. He’s done a great job of getting Nukeduck fed numerous times.
Broxah doesn’t mind diving the bot lane, but his main focus has been getting Caps ahead for the entire year. Caps is the one who focuses on protecting and getting Rekkles ahead once he’s dominating his lane.
The difference comes with Caps, who’s clearly a far more accomplished mid laner than Nukeduck. While Nukeduck holds the potential to make a surprise pick, and has won lane plenty of times before, Caps is definitely the bigger and more reliable carry between the two. It’s possible that Nukeduck will be on a passive champion like a Lulu or Galio rather than a hard carry.
The Bot Lane
This is perhaps the point where both teams look like two sides of the same coin. Hylissang and Vander are both adept at keeping their ADCs alive and healthy, while Rekkles and Upset have their eyes set on farming and scaling as quickly as they can. They rarely go in for teamfights, unless Rekkles is feeling frisky on his Tristana. Both ADCs are almost equally skilled, however, so the 2018 EU LCS Summer Playoffs Finals is up for grabs.
Upset has shown a tendency to switch between Kai’sa and Ezreal, while Rekkles prefers the critical strike marksmen like Tristana and Sivir.
We’ve seen them both perform unimaginably well on those champions during the past few weeks. It’s all about who’ll scale first and lead their team to greatness.
2018 EU LCS Summer Finals: Match Prediction
Prediction: Fnatic wins 3-2
Betting: Fnatic to win at 1.28 odds (ArcaneBet)
Everyone seems to think that Schalke 04 will be predictable, and hence easy to defeat. That doesn’t seem like the case, however, since they’ve already shown that they can adapt to different teams and their playstyles. We expect them to conjure up something we haven’t seen yet, which of course, says nothing for Fnatic’s unpredictability.
Ultimately, we’ll give the match over to Fnatic because of their mid lane advantage, and their sheer experience when it comes to playing the game at the playoffs level. They’ve destroyed the last team they opposed in the EU LCS finals, and we think we’ll see another victory coming from them in these 2018 EU LCS Summer Playoffs Finals.
Unlike the last time, this should be a close match, perhaps going the full five games even, since we’re expecting Schalke to surprise us and take Fnatic by surprise.
