The 2018 EPICENTER XL Major Is All Set and Ready to Go

With the conclusion of the Chinese Qualifiers and the free-for-all Madness Qualifiers earlier today, the 2018 EPICENTER XL Major is now all set and ready to go.

Nearly three months after the initial announcement, the final list of participants for the 2018 EPICENTER XL Major is now finally complete. FlyToMoon, a five-man stack based in the CIS region composed of notable players such as Airat ‘Silent‘ Gaziev and Andrey ‘ALWAYSWANNAFLY‘ Bondarenko were the last team to qualify for the tournament. They earned their spot in the main event via the EPICENTER XL Madness Qualifiers.

FlyToMoon are looking strong lately in the CIS regional qualifiers. If they keep it up, they might just find a team sponsor in no time.

2018 EPICENTER XL Major: Who’s In, Who’s Out?

As a Pro Circuit Major, qualifying to EPICENTER XL is a big deal, even for top-tier teams. As such, the best of each respective regions either received direct invites, or made it through their regional qualifiers. OG, despite their recent LAN struggles, had no problem qualifying for the main event. Meanwhile, regional powerhouses LGD Gaming, Team Empire, paiN Gaming and Mineski, all made it out of their respective regions as well.

Evil Geniuses are perhaps the biggest team not in the tournament. “Snubbed” of a direct invite, the boys in blue had to play in the North American Regional Qualifiers. There, they found themselves losing twice to compLexity Gaming. The second time came via a heart-breaking 3-2 loss in the Grand Finals.

After failing to qualify via their Regional Qualifiers, Evil Geniuses tried their luck at the Madness Qualifiers. However, they would fall short once again. This time, they would not even make it to the playoffs. As a result, the 2018 EPICENTER XL Major will be the first Major tournament Evil Geniuses will miss this season.

The 2018 EPICENTER XL Major is the sixth Major of the 2017-18 Dota Pro Circuit. It is the first Major ever in Russia. Not only that, but it is also the largest esports event ever held in the country, with a prize pool of $1 million USD. Also up for grabs during the tournament are 1,500 Qualifying Points for The International 2018.
