100 Thieves cannot play IEM Katowice or StarSeries

100 Thieves are crippled after kNgV, their berserker ex-Immortal, went on a verbal rampage on Twitter, and made homophobic comments there that had respected analysts and commentators in the CS:GO universe, as well as fans, protesting indignantly. 100 Thieves’ management reacted swiftly, saying that they had warned kNgV what would happen if he didn’t hold himself to the highest standards of behavior.

He didn’t do so, of course

Seriously, what were 100 Thieves thinking there, making such an unreasonable demand? However, now that he’s transgressed the code the management set down when he joined the team (in public, no less), 100 Thieves’ management have come down hard, booting him from the team. But that leaves the 100 Thieves team between a rock and a hard place.

In other words, the team is crippled

Does anyone get a sense of déjà vu and remember Immortals here? After this, it’s highly unlikely that another top pro team will pick up kNgV, top CS:GO gunman as he is. No team’s management wants to be left holding the bag just before an event, with a four man roster that is unable to fight effectively.

100 Thieves will not play IEM Katowice or StarSeries

Tragically, that’s perfectly true, and has been confirmed. It seems that 100 Thieves’ advent into the CS:GO pro scene was ill-fated from the start for being based on a berserker like kNgV. Now, the team has officially announced that they are unable to find a viable fifth member for their roster who would allow them to engage their opponents in immediate events, and so will not be competing at IEM Katowice, and will also pull out of the StarSeries i-League. This announcement comes just before they were due to face NRG Esports in the first qualifying matches of these events.

There is no way 100 Thieves could make these events

The team’s management tried hard to find a replacement for kNgV, but it was impossible on such short notice. With the team members stranded in Brazil awaiting their fate, they would have to deal with serious issues with latency were they to play now.

The eclipse of 100 Thieves hopes has proved to be a boon for Rise Nation

Rise nation will now take their place in the StarSeries. As for 100 Thieves, taking Immortals’ place in the sun has brought with it the ‘curse’ that was the cause of Immortals’ downfall in the first place. However, they still have four excellent players on their squad, and as soon as they can find a fifth, we can look forward to this team battling their way into the qualifiers of future events once again.
